The nutritionist at Essentials for Health, a nutritional practice based on food and its healing properties, has adopted the philosophy from the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, “Let food be thy medicine”. We do not teach calorie counting or weights and measures of food for weight loss. We take the individual’s need or health problem and design a specific program for that person. We believe that if the body is properly digesting and the food consumed is the best food for that individual, the nutrients will be absorbed and optimum performance of the body will be the result.

Hence, there is no need for bags full of supplements or artificial stimulants to get through the day. We also work on decreasing inflammation in the body, one of the leading causes of disease, pain and fatigue. We have a very specific program to determine which foods will work best for each individual. We believe that even a healthy food is not healthy if it’s not healthy for you. We have found that Hippocrates understood this many years ago when he stated “One man’s food is another man’s poison."

Willie Victor, a Nutrition Educator and Consultant, has been involved in many facets of health care for over 30 years. She graduated from the Respiratory Therapy Program at American River College in Sacramento, California, as a Respiratory Care Practitioner and is a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. Willie also graduated from Bauman College,a California State Licensed Institute, as a Nutrition Educator and a Nutrition Consultant. Her training included 750 hours of education. She was also a teacher’s assistant at the college for four years helping students in the nutrition program. Her education increased the understanding of health issues that related to food and provided a holistic, whole food background that is scientifically based. She has worked with adults, infants and children in acute, emergency care and rehabilitation as a therapist. She now works with children and adults as a nutritional counselor seeking a dietary program to improve their health, heal an illness, or just lead a healthier lifestyle.

While working in a hospital setting, Willie felt that the patients needed more “individual” counseling in the importance of healing with nutrition. She believes that the dietary program must be designed to suit each individual’s needs and lifestyle. She works with a specific system to help her design an individual food program for each client. Her experience with weight management includes owning a medically supervised clinic with an Endocrinologist in Sacramento, where she educated the clients on food and its nutritional content, shopping and food choices and taught healthy cooking classes. She currently has many clients with food allergies and sensitivities. Her experience as a respiratory therapist has been helpful in understanding the relationship of triggers and food in children and adults suffering from asthma and allergies. Many of her clients have come to her with digestive issues, an area she has spent many hours researching diet programs due to her own digestive problems that she developed as a child.

Willie has been asked to provide nutritional information at Health Fairs for Chevron Corporation, and for Cutera, a cutting edge skin laser manufacturer in San Francisco. She has also given nutritional seminars at Cutera for their employees, as part of their Human Resource Department.

Willie attends conferences several times a year that offer continuing education units which further her knowledge on the most current research in nutrition. She is the owner of Essentials for Health.
